Tricky was born Adrian Thaws in Knowle West, Bristol, Avon, in England. After joining Massive Attack in the early ‘90s, his vocals on their seminal debut album, Blue Lines, helped launch the trip-hop genre into the mainstream. When Tricky’s solo debut, 1995’s Maxinquaye was released just a few years later, the stage was set: The record shot to number two on the charts almost no radio airplay.
